APC Kicks As Fayemi Invites PDP Governor, 2 Others For Projects Commissioning

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has shocked some in the All Progressive Congress after he invited an opposition governor, Mr Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State for commissioning of some projects in the state.

The former speaker will be joined by the Chairman of the Progressives Governor’s Forum and Governor of Kebbi State, Mr Atiku Bagudu and Jigawa State Governor, Mohammed Baduru.

While Fayemi is of the APC, Tambuwal is of the PDP. He defected in 2018 to the PDP while a governor during his first term.

The projects to be commissioned are road projects initiated and completed by the administration of Fayemi.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Akin Omole, on Thursday said the trio would commission projects, as part of the activities marking the third anniversary of Fayemi’s government.

The governors, according to Omole, would, during their visit, commission Ijan-Igbemo-Ire-Ilupeju, Oye-Ikun-Kwara State Boundary and Aramoko-Erijiyan-Ikogosi roads.

Omole said: “The council deliberated on and approved for the rehabilitation of township roads in the state, to be carried out by the Ekiti State Public Works Corporation through direct labour. It was approved that the corporation should expedite the works ahead of the anticipated high traffic during the upcoming festive period.”

The development is being seen by the ruling party as an affront with a high ranking member of the party telling THE WHISTLER that, it’s “dirty politics from the plate of Fayemi ahead of the 2023 election.”

Speaking at the APC National Secretariat on Thursday immediately when the news broke, he told the WHISTLER when approached for his comment that, Fayemi is increasingly being seen as an outsider in the party.

Refusing to be named, he said Fayemi has been playing dirty politics lately insinuating that the romance is geared towards possible defection.

He said his romance with PDP bigwigs in the stage especially his arch enemy, Mr Ayo Fayose, his predecessor, is well documented.

He did not say if the party has placed him under watch but declined to say if the situation has been discussed in the party hierarchy.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr John Akpanudoedeh, was not immediately available for comment.

Fayemi has been nursing presidential ambition but it’s not clear if this is already a signal of his intention to defect or aiming to be running mate to Tambuwal who is also nursing presidential ambition.
