APC NWC Clears Tonye Cole, 23 Other Governorship Candidates
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared Mr Tonye Cole to contest as the party’s candidate in the 2019 governorship election in Rivers state.
The APC Governorship Primary Election Committee for Rivers had announced that Cole, an oil mogul, secured 3,329 votes to defeat other aspirants.
Recall that Senator Magnus Abe, who represents Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, had contradicted the committee by declaring himself the winner of primary poll. But the ruling party however announced Mr Cole as its 2019 governorship candidate in Rivers.
The APC Ag. National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yekini Nabena, in a statement on Friday, stated that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party also cleared 23 other governorship aspirants, which include Uche Ogah of Abia State, Nsima Ekere of Akwa-Ibom State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
Nabena said the decision was taken following the conclusion of the governorship primaries in the states involved, at the end of the NWC meeting on Thursday.
Nabena revealed also, that the APC NWC ratified the reports of the various Electoral Committees and adopted the under-listed as the party’s governorship candidates for the next year’s gubernatorial elections.
