APC Promises Omisore Senate Presidency If Buhari Is Re-elected

Among irresistible offers allegedly promised Senator Iyiola Omisore as part of the conditions to help candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Isiaka Oyetola, win today’s rerun election in Osun State, is the Senate Presidency in the next administration.

Omisore, it was gathered, was promised the Senate Presidency by the APC if President Muhammadu Buhari gets re-elected in the 2019 presidential election.

According to ThisDay, the ruling party promised the SDP governorship candidate that it would persuade the current federal lawmaker representing Osun East senatorial district in the Senate, Senator Jide Omoworare, to not re-contest his seat in order to enable Omisore occupy the seat in the next administration.

Among other offers reportedly dangled before Omisore to support APC’s candidate in the rerun include N480 million, two commissioners’ slots in the state and two House of House of Representatives seats.

Meanwhile, the APC, in a statement by its acting National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, has denied the said juicy offers.

“Though I was not at the meeting, it does not sound right that the Vice President and the Senate President would come from the same geo-political zone. This is what we are contending with now with the President Muhammadu Buhari and the Senate President both from the North,” said Nabena.

Although Omisore admitted on Wednesday that he had agreed to work with APC’s candidate to defeat PDP’s Ademola Adeleke, the SDP candidate said he decided to support the ruling party not because of personal gains but because the party agreed to laid out terms of the SDP.

“We have accepted to support the APC for victory in the rerun election tomorrow and thereafter form a coalition government,” he said, adding that, “Our conclusion to form a coalition government is based on the party that is ready to work with SDP to adopt and implement the core values of our party.”

Omisore said, “Our core values and philosophy, as indicated in our SDP manifestoes, have all been presented to APC and PDP. APC has since come back to accept all the conditions proposed to them by us, to form a coalition government while the PDP is yet to respond.

“We now therefore, as a party (SDP), accept to support APC for victory in the re-run election tomorrow and thereafter form a coalition government,” he added.
