APC To PDP: Don’t Waste Your Time, You Won’t Win Ondo Governorship Poll

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to waste its time contesting in the forthcoming Ondo governorship election.

Chairman of the party’s National Campaign Council and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, stated this on Saturday in an interview with news men after the inauguration of the 104-member council at National Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

Incumbent Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, is seeking a second term under the APC, while his major challenger, Eyitayo Jegede, is contesting the poll on the platform of the PDP.

Some of Akeredolu’s critics claim he has performed below expectations , while they see Jegede as a strong force, who may cause an upset at the poll.

Jegede had also won the PDP primaries in 2016, and flew the flag of the party in that year’s governorship election, a contest he lost to Akeredolu.

Recall that Sanwo-Olu was appointed on August 11 to lead the campaign council by the Chairman of the Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee of the APC, Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Sanwo-Olu said despite the call on the PDP, the APC would not leave anything to chance in the coming polls.

He said, “They (PDP) really should not waste their time. But you know election is something that is not over until it’s over, but we are not going to take anybody for granted. We’re going for an election and it will be issue-based. We will ensure that we will campaign on the platform and for the people of Ondo State to see the need why they need to continue with the progressive government.

” He’s doing very well and he knows that he still has the capacity to continue and that’s why we are with him.”

He expressed optimism that Akeredolu would be returned elected in the October poll because of what he had achieved in his people-driven governance.

Asked if Akeredolu’s choice for the party’s ticket was only that of the APC’ national leader, Bola Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu said Akeredolu’s endorsement was a collective endorsement of the entire APC structure in the state.

On the large number of campaign members, the Lagos governor said it was a reflection of the how passionate and committed members had to serve at the national level.

The Ondo governorship election is scheduled to hold on October 10.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on July 31 unveiled the list of 17 candidates, their running mates as well as parties running for the election.
