A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili has expressed displeasure over the number of ministers and personalities that will engage Twitter over an indefinite ban placed on the United States firm earlier this month.

The attack by the ex-minister of Solid Minerals, is coming few hours after the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Muhammed, announced on Tuesday that the president has approved a team that will hold discussions with the US microblogging site.

Muhammed who announced the indefinite ban on Twitter on June 4, will also chair the negotiation team.

The team include the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami SAN, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, among other agencies.

Ezekwesili said on Arise Tv interview programme that it was annoying seeing the number of the Nigerian ministers that will have to sit with the microblogging platform.

She said, “This idea that we are now setting up this committee made up of ministers holding very important positions in government that are going to sit trying to resolve Twitter is so annoying.

“It really is annoying, because this was a matter of engaging Twitter early in the day to say ‘we suffer from issue of hate speeches, this is a menace, we don’t want it because this is an environment that could be so sensitive to create a big problem.’ We could have done this in the most dignifying manner.”
