‘Are You An Armed Robber?’ Naira Marley Slams #EndSARS Campaigners After U-Turn On Protest

Nigerian singer, Naira Marley, has called off his plan to lead a mass protest against “rogue” operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

Naira Marley, real name Azeez Fashola, also condemned those calling on the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to scrap the police unit.

The singer’s criticism of the #EndSARS campaigners came on Tuesday, the same day he was supposed to lead a street protest against alleged brutality and human rights abuse by SARS officials.

Naira Marley suggested that those calling for the scrapping of the police unit were either armed robbers or being sponsored by criminals.

The singer spoke during a live instagram interview with Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on Tuesday.

He said, “We need to reform SARS. Let’s be reasonable, are you an armed robber?

“Why will you say they should end SARS? If you end SARS, it means they should end EFCC and other agencies. All we have to do is get them off the road.

“Nobody threatened me, I know my rights. What stopped me was thinking of the safety of everybody and I saw that the police issued a statement.”
