Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Navy have begun ‘show of force’ in some riverine communities in Ondo State ahead of the October 10 governorship election in the state.

They moved through Atijere, Abereke, Agadagba, Obolowo, Asere, Arogbo, Dioba and other communities in the two riverine local government areas of the state.

The military said it was aware of several camps that are springing up on the waterways and stated that some hideouts of criminals at Asere were destroyed during the exercise.

They warned hoodlums against attempting to come into the state before, during or after the election.

While expressing their readiness for the governorship poll, they noted that they would carry out their duties professionally in ensuring a peaceful poll.

The Commander of 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Brig-Gen. Zakari Abubakar, said the military exercise was staged to warn hoodlums that they would not be allowed to operate in the state to cause violence or disrupt the poll.

He said, “We have gone for ‘Show of Force’. We are telling hoodlums and militants that are on the creek who may want to cause trouble that we are ready.

“The purpose of the exercise is to get prepared for the October 10 governorship election. We want to ensure that the election is free and peaceful and make sure that hoodlums don’t interfere.

“As you are aware, the places visited lead to Delta and Ogun States and they may want to come through the creek. But I want to assure you that whenever and wherever they come from, we will give them blocking force.”
