The assailants attacked the Umutu Police Station in the wee hours of Friday with intentions to raze the facility and cart away ammunition, the Delta police command had disclosed.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, DSP Edafe Bright, the incident led to two other officers’ deaths, despite a “tough fight” between the police and the bandits.

The attack was the second on police facilities in the state, and this time, Bright said operatives on duty eventually overwhelmed the attackers, leading to the death of two of them, while others were injured.

The statement read in part, “They had to take a retreat, they quickly carried their dead and ran away.
