Assault: Mugabe To Appear In South African Court
Grace Mugabe, Zimbabwe’s first lady, was on Tuesday charged with assault for allegedly attacking a young woman in Johannesburg, capital of South Africa, Fikile Mbalula, the country’s police minister has said.
The 52-year-old Grace, reportedly handed herself over to the authorities after the incident, according to media reports in the country.
She was said to be in the country for a medical examination on her foot.
“She will be charged,” Mbalula said.
“She is not under arrest because she cooperated and handed herself over to the police. But a case has been opened,” he said.
It was not clear at which court Grace would appear, Reuters said.
A Zimbabwean intelligence source said Grace had been travelling on an ordinary non-diplomatic passport. “She was here on business,” the source told Reuters.
