After ASUU Ban, Kogi University Begins Replacement Of Striking Lecturers

Governor Yahaya Bello may have fulfilled his threat to striking Kogi State University (KSU) lecturers following the institution`s announcement of their replacement on Friday.

The management of KSU, Anyigba, placed an advertorial inviting suitable candidates to fill positions left vacant by the academic staff of the university.

A lecturer who pleaded anonymity confirmed to The WHISTLER that the State Government opted for their replacement after the July 24, 2017, deadline given for their resumption by Governor Bello elapsed.

The lecturer said the recruitment exercise is expected to cut across all 7 faculties in the University, namely: Agriculture, Arts and Humanities, Education, Law, Management Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and College of Health Sciences.

He noted that the university has been on strike since 3rd February, 2017.

It would be recalled that Governor Bello had, after an emergency meeting by the State Executive Council in Lokoja on July 19, proscribed the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in Kogi State University.

Bello had said: “In effect, the Governing Council of the University and the management of KSU and the management of the ministry of education are hereby directed to immediately start the process of employing all categories of academic staff.”

“Accordingly the Kogi State Government hereby makes the proclamation and declares all activities of ASUU in KSU from today 19th, July 2017 proscribed,” the governor had said.
