The confirmation has however ended speculations on whether Mr Abubakar had actually travelled to the US or not.

THE WHISTLER also confirmed from senior communications manager, US Chamber of commerce Katherine Cooksey that the Turaki Adamawa is scheduled to attend a private round table meeting hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce, and Africa Business Center on Friday.

Cooksey also disclosed that invitations for the round table were sent to both Mr Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari, the two leading candidates in next month’s presidential election, but only Mr Abubakar confirmed attendance.

The meeting was scheduled to give the candidates opportunity to intimate the Chamber on their economic plans for Africa’s largest economy

This is the first time Mr Abubakar will visit the US since stepping out of power 13 years ago.

There were rumours that he had secured a visa and travelled to the US last September, but his aides denied it. The rumour prompted Lai Muhammed, Minister of Information, to urge the US not to grant him entry visa into the US, stressing that such would be interpreted as an endorsement of his candidature
