The result was inspired by the 23rd minute assist by Suarez which was send to the back of the net by Lemar.

The Uruguayan made Wanda Metropolitano Stadium more entertaining for the home fans when he scored Atletico’s second goal in the 44th minute.

But he celebrated with a gesture suggesting that he was begging his former Barca fans for the goal.

The 34-year-old left Barca in a condition described as frustrating after the team could not extend his contract because he was “too old.”

“What really bothered me was when they told me that I was old and that I could no longer play at a high level, be up to [the task of fronting] a great team. That’s what I did not like. ” Suarez had told France Football.

Last season, he spear-headed Diego Simeone’s team by winning the La Liga title.

Barcelona have continued to suffer defeat since Lionel Messi left the team.

They lost 3:0 to both Bayern Munich and Benfica in the UEFA Champions League.

They are currently 9th place in the table having secured only 3 wins out of seven games in La Liga.
