Australia Ends World Cup Hopes After Peru Defeat

Australia’s World Cup campaign came to an end after they were defeated by Peru on Tuesday.

Australia needed to defeat already-eliminated Peru and hope France beat Denmark in order to reach the last 16, but the South Americans thought otherwise.

André Carrillo scored the first goal for the Americans while, Peru captain Paolo Guerrero, the man who almost missed the tournament until his drugs ban was overturned, added Peru’s second in the second half.

The win is Peru’s first at the World Cup since 1978.

The result means France have won the group and will play the runners-up of Group D, while Denmark go through as runners-up and will play the winners of Group D, which should be Croatia.

Denmark and France join Russia, Uruguay, Spain, Portugal, England, Belgium and Croatia in the last 16.
