Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has warned skipper, John Obi Mikel, against a move to high spending Chinese Super League.

The out-of-favour midfielder, who is in his final six-months of his contract has been linked with big money moves to Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, Guangzhou Evergrande, Hebei China Fortune and Beijing Guoan.

This comes after his teammate Oscar moved from Chelsea to Shanghai SIPG in a £60m move earlier this month.

“I prefer Mikel stays in Europe and play in an European team,” Rohr told reporters in Lagos on Tuesday. “When I was in London two weeks ago, we spoke about that.

“But Mikel is an experienced and intelligent player and he knows what to do. If he decides to choose the money of China then we must respect that. If he goes to China and is playing well, he will come.”

There are indications that the 29-year-old is in talks on a possible move to Spanish side, Valencia, but the deal is stalling because of the Nigerian’s wage demands.

Chelsea is prepared to let the Mikel go in January and even though Valencia have made an offer they are not able to match the finance in China.
