Baba Ijesha: Nollywood Is Addressing Sexual Harrassment Among Actors – Monalisa Chinda

Nollywood actress, Monalisa Chinda, has disclosed that Nigeria’s film industry has put modalities in place to apprehend any actor or industry stars engaging in sexual harrassment of actors or others.

She was reacting to issues of sexual assaults in the industry after the launch of a Sexual and Gender based violence movie series (Speak Up) done in collaboration by the National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) and an NGO, Patriotic People’s Foundation.

When asked by our correspondent if there were mechanisms in the Nollywood industry to checkmate actors from assaulting people who consider them as models, Chinda said that a department has been created to address SGBV by actors.

She said actors should be wary of engaging in such acts because the industry has resolved to monitor them.

“Yes. with the few cases that have come to us, we are handling it. It is not something i want to talk about here right now… we are handling it. There is a department that has been created for that; so if you put your ears to the ground very well, it is been curbed. We don’t want anybody to come and expose you for having to harrass upcoming actor or someone who is looking at how they can be part of the Nollywood industry, you don’t even want to try it. So your name will be recorded, it will be planned, they will catch you doing what you are not supposed to do… so everybody is being very careful, so that is been checkmated..that’s what i can say,” she said on Tuesday.

A Yoruba Nollywood actor, Baba Ijesha, was recently accused of raping a minor.

He was arrested by the police.

THE WHISTLER reported that the actor was granted bail by a magistrate but his trial in court is stalled due to the ongoing strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
