Bandits ‘Demand N200m’ To Release Kidnapped Army Major

The captors of Major Stephen Dantong, who was abducted from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) barracks in Afaka, Kaduna, have reportedly demanded N200m ransom for the officer’s release.

The kidnappers contacted the management of the NDA to demand the said amount, FIJ reports.

“They have called to ask for N200million to free the Major,” the medium quoted source as saying, adding that “The attack was ridiculous. They came, teased us and left. Even the helicopter hovering in the bush could not track them.”

THE WHISTLER reported that the NDA had confirmed invasion of the academy and killing of two personnel in the early hours of Tuesday. It said an officer was also abducted during the attack.

In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Maj. Bashir Jajira, the NDA disclosed that it was collaborating with other security agencies to track down the assailants to rescue the abducted personnel.

“The NDA community and Cadets are safe in the Academy. We assure the general public that these unknown gunmen would soon be apprehended and the abducted personnel rescued,” it said in a statement.
