Bandits Kill 30 During Attack On 2 Katsina Villages 

Suspected bandits have killed at least 30 people during separate attacks on Tsauwa and Dankar villages in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Those killed during the attacks were mostly elderly women and children who could not run, said the police authorities in the state.

The Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Buba, said 21 people were killed in Tsauwa village, out of which 13 were set ablaze while nine villagers were killed in Dankar.

Speaking to Channels TV on the attack, the ward head of Tsauwa, Salisu Lawal, said, “Yesterday (Friday) when we were preparing for the Magrib prayer, we heard that bandits were attacking Dankar village.

“Unknown to us that they were also coming to this village, we saw them in large number; some of them trekking, some riding motorcycles.

“Upon their arrival, they started shooting sporadically from across all the areas in the village; they equally restricted movement of all the people in the village.”

Meanwhile, the police said some of the suspects in connection with the attacks have been arrested.

The Spokesman for the state police command,  Gambo Isah, said nine motorcycles suspected to belong to the bandits were also recovered.

Soldiers deployed to Tsauwa and Dankar villages in the Batsari Local Government Area of the State where the attack occurred were said to have made the arrest

 “We arrested a middle-aged man on Saturday morning. The man came to Katsina with stolen items from the areas where the bandits operated on Friday looking for buyers for them. He was subsequently arrested and he is currently being interrogated.

“Also, we have recovered nine motorcycles strongly suspected to belong to the bandits. The motorcycles were recovered through the army and we are still investigating. I cannot tell you more than that.’’

The state police commissioner, Sanusi Buba, who visited the two villages on Saturday, said security operatives were on the trail of the bandits.

 “I still find it surprising why these people would carry out these dastardly acts. We are however after them. Twenty one people were killed in Tsauwa while nine were killed in Dankar.”
