Barbara Bush, Former US First Lady Dies At 92

Barbara Bush, wife of George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States has died at the age of 92.

The family spokesman, Jim McGrath confirmed this on twitter in a statement from the office of George H.W. Bush.

The former US first lady passed away on Wednesday morning at her home in Houston, Texas, where she fought with a thyroid condition known as Graves’ disease (An immune system disorder of the butterfly-shaped gland in the throat).

Meanwhile, George W. Bush, in his condolence message said, “My dear mother had passed on at age 92. Laura, Barbara, Jenna and I are sad, but our souls are settled because we know her.

“I am a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother. Our family will miss her dearly, and we thank you all for your prayers and good wishes’’.

Equally, President Donald Trump sent his warm words to the family as he said, “As a wife, mother, grandmother, military spouse, and former First Lady, Mrs Bush was an advocate of the American family. She will be long remembered for her strong devotion to country and family”.

Mrs Bush got married to George H.W. Bush in 1945 and the couple were married for 73 years. They had six children including former US President George W. Bush, and former Florida governor and one-time presidential aspirant, Jeb Bush.

Bush was one of two women in American history to sit in the position of being both a wife and mother to the US presidents.
