Barcelona To Sell Naming Rights Of Stadium To Support Fight Against Covid-19

Spanish giant, Barcelona FC are set to sell the image rights of the Nou Camp for a one year period to raise funds for the fight against Coronavirus Pandemic.

The Nou Camp which is the biggest soccer cathedral in Europe with a 99,000 sitting capacity have never sold the rights to their stadium since it opened in 1957.

The club’s Vice President , Jordi Cardoner. who beat the Coronavirus, said: “We want to send a universal message: For the first time someone will have the opportunity to put their name on Camp Nou and the revenues will go to all of humanity, not just Barca.

“The initiative arose in an emergency situation. We think that we have to have a very quick response, putting our crown jewel at the service (of the fight).”

The club’s hierarchy had planned to auction off the naming rights in 2023 to raise money for the club and hope to generate 264 million pounds for a 25 year period to help in the payment for the redevelopment of the stadium.

Cardoner said the club would send an SOS and would be open to everything.

The club in a statement said : “We want to maximise the economic participation and to ensure that the partners share our same social values.”

“The stadium will maintain the name “Camp Nou” in addition to including the sponsor.”

The announcement for the naming deal would be made within three weeks.

Barca had in recent times taken to charity as the club’s jersey carry the name of children’s charity UNICEF since 2006.

“We do a lot through our foundation, and it occurred to me that we had to think big, think big like we did with the shirt and UNICEF.” Cardoner said

The Spanish league has remained suspended since March due to Coronavirus Pandemic .
