Following a heavy downpour Monday night, a pedestrian bridge has collapsed at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU, Gubi Campus killing four students and eight others.
According to reports, the bridge which links one of the hostels and another building containing lecture rooms collapsed at midnight.
Reports also said the incident happened between 11.30pm and 12 am.

Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdulazeez Ahmed also confirmed the death of the students.
In a chat with newsmen, President of Student Union Government, SUG of the institution, Naziru Mohammed disclosed that the students have been confirmed dead with others injured.
Reports further said students of the university are currently protesting, blaming the bridge collapse on negligence by the institution’s authorities.
Director of Public Relations of the University, Andee Iheme said “An emergency Senate Meeting has been called this morning and we will hold a Press Conference immediately after that.”
