BAYELSA: Oshiomhole Rejects Supreme Court Verdict, Reveals What APC Will Do

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has rejected Thursday’s verdict of the Supreme Court which sacked the party’s candidate, David Lyon, as Bayelsa State governor-elect.

The apex court had annulled Lyon’s victory for presenting a running mate with fake certificates in the state’s governorship election.

Lyon was scheduled to be sworn-in as governor of the state on Friday.

But the court in an unanimous judgment delivered by Justice Mary Peter-Odili-led five-man panel on Thursday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw Lyon’s certificate of return and issue a fresh certificate of return to the aspirant who came second in the poll.

Meanwhile, Lyon had polled 352,552 votes in the election to defeat his closest rival Duoye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 143, 172 votes.

But reacting to the Supreme Court verdict, Oshiomhole said the verdict was devoid of justice.

The APC Chairman who spoke to journalists at the party’s headquarters in Abuja said, “Our lawyers are already studying the judgment to take the necessary legal action”.

Oshiomhole added that no one would be sworn in as governor on Friday, as he claimed that no other candidate in the election has the constitutional spread to be sworn in as governor.
