“Canada is providing up to $5M in humanitarian assistance, with an initial $1.5M going immediately to trusted partners on the ground including @redcrossLebanon, via @redcrosscanada, to help meet the urgent needs of people affected by the tragic,” it tweeted.

Recall that Lebanon’s President, Michel Aoun, had urged foreign countries to help his country overcome the” unprecedented” disaster by offering assistance.

About 100 people died with over 4,000 injured as a result of the explosion.

The government had also declared a two- week state of emergency in the area, so as to unravel the cause of the blast.
