Ben Bruce Asks FG To Sell NTA To Its Employees

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, on Tuesday, urged the Federal Government to sell off agencies such as the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) and the Voice of Nigeria (VOA) to their employees, saying the organisations have outgrown their usefulness.

Senator Murray-Bruce identified other government “agencies that make no sense“ as the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), saying selling them off will enable government cut costs.

The lawmaker said this during Tuesday’s plenary session of the Senate, where the N8.612 trillion 2018 budget proposal submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari was deliberated upon.

Mr. Murray-Bruce frowned at the bogus annual budgets allocated to the agencies which he said do not yield commensurate outputs.

“Mr President, distinguished colleagues, let us look at agencies that make no sense…..The FRCN, sell it. The personnel of FRCN have 8,000 workers. Sell it. Sell NTA to the staff. Who listens to Voice of Nigeria again?”

“The staff should form cooperative society and buy them like Chief Obafemi Awolowo did in those days,” said the senator.
