Benue Police Speak On Naked Female Corpse, Says Not Rape Victim

Contrary to some social media reports, the Benue State Police Command has said the corpse of a yet-to-be identified middle-aged woman recovered in the Nyiman area of Makurdi was not a rape victim.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Catherine Anene, the body was recovered in the early hours of Monday.

While noting that the cause of her death is still unknown until an autopsy was conducted, Anene dismissed speculations on the social media that the victim was raped to death.

She added that the body had already been deposited at a mortuary.

THE WHISTLER observes that the deceased was naked, giving rise to speculation that she was raped to death.

Despite the stance of the police, this brings to second in the cases of rape to death that will be reported in the state.

Recall that in October last year, 13-year-old Ochanya Ogbanja lost her life after she was reportedly raped by a father and son.

Her death sparked protests in some parts of the county which called for justice for the deceased.
