Benzema Cleared For Euro 2016

Real Madrid Striker Karim Benzema has been given the go ahead to represent France at Euro 2016 after legal restrictions were officially lifted by an appeals court on Friday.

The 28-year old was charged in November over an alleged attempt to extort money from France teammate Mathieu Valbuena using a sex tape.

The French striker, who denied all wrongdoing, was forbidden from coming in contact with Valbuena, he was also suspended from the national team until the case be resolved, meaning that he could miss the European Championship, which is to be held in France from 10 June to 10 July 2016.

However, Benzema’s lawyer, Sylvain Cormier, confirmed on Friday that an appeals court has partially lifted some restrictions.

According to Cormier, the decision of the court was “a first step”.

“Common sense has reasserted itself, this decision lifts the legal obstacles that could have existed,” the lawyer added.
