B’Haram/ISIS: Nigeria Needs International Support To Overcome Terrorist Threats – Group

In order to overcome the onslaught of terrorists in the country, Nigeria needs the support of the world, the Nigerians in Diaspora Monitoring Group (NDMG), United Kingdom chapter, has said.

NDMG, in a statement by its Director of Publicity, Prince Oni, said the country is confronted with another dimension of terrorist activities by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

The group said its concern followed the recent development in which ISIS claimed responsibility as the group involved in an encounter with Nigerian troops.

It noted further that the claim of responsibility by ISIS is a “jolting wake-up call to the reality that international terrorism is trying to relocate its axis of influence to the Lake Chad Basin region and by implication Nigeria.”

Oni called on global attention to prevent ISIS or any other terror groups from establishing itself as a replacement for Boko Haram.

He feared that if this happens, the world will be confronted with another refugee crisis like the one in Europe presently.

The group said all hands must be on the deck to chase away ISIS out of the region before they gain ground and repeat the kind of carnage brought upon the Syrian-Iraqi axis.

The group, however, advised the Federal Government and the Armed Forces not to relent in tackling the new security threat posed by ISIS.

Recall that Reuters had in May 2019, reported that ISIS claimed responsibility for killing 11 soldiers in Borno, North East of the country

The terrorist sect had reportedly said its men were responsible for the attack of Gajiganna town through its news agency AMAQ.
