Biafra: Buhari Replies Nnamdi Kanu Over Renewed Threats

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the resurgence of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and his renewed call for Biafra exit.

After reappearing in a viral video purporting him to be praying in Jerusalem last week, Mr Kanu on Sunday renewed his agitation for self-determination of the Republic of Biafra.

The IPOB leader was quoted to have said, “I am not a Nigerian. I already renounced Nigeria in 2015. I am a Biafran with British Nationality…,” adding that, “I decree that there is no longer South East or South South Nigeria, it shall be known as Biafra, without referendum nothing will happen in Nigeria. IPOB will not participate in any election and that position will never change.”

But reacting apparently to Kanu’s renewed agitation for Biafra, President Buhari, while receiving the Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant and other members of the party at the State House on Monday, said those who feel they have another country besides Nigeria are free to leave.

He said, “The late Major General Tunde Idiagbon was a very rare example of what loyalty to the fatherland and to a superior, should be.

“Tunde was strong, loyal and extremely committed to the cause of positively changing the narrative about Nigeria, which the administration set out to do at that time”.

“What I said long ago in 1984 is still valid today. We have no other country but Nigeria.

“Others who feel they have another country may choose to go. We will stay here and salvage it together,” said the President.
