Again, Bill Gates Knocks Buhari Over Poor Economic Policy

Barely a week after dressing down President Muhammadu Buhari’s economic policy, Bill Gates has taken to CNN to ridicule the present government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

Mr Gates, who is Microsoft founder and Co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, told CNN that the Buhari administration’s investment in health and education is “not good enough”.

“As a partner in Nigeria, I am saying the current plan is inadequate. Nigeria has all these young people and the current quality and quantity of investment in these young generations; in health and education just isn’t good enough. So, I was very direct,” he said.

“If they can get health and education right, they will be an engine of growth not just for themselves but for all of Africa,” Gates said.

In his earlier criticism of the government’s economic recovery plan, Mr Gates said the ERGP does not reflect people’s needs.

“The Nigerian government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan identify” investing in our people” as one of three ” strategic objectives”. But the” execution priorities” don’t fully reflect people’s needs, prioritizing physical capital over human capital,” the American Billionaire had said.

In reaction, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El Rufai had said Gates’ comment was erroneous.
