Boko Haram: Army Hands Over 184 Suspects To UN

No fewer than 184 teenagers suspected to be Boko Haram members have been handed over to the United Nations, in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Butatai has said.

Represented by the Theatre Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Maj.-Gen. Nicholas Rogers, Buratai said the handing over was in line with international standard and convention.

Speaking at Maimalari Cantonment of the Nigerian Army, Buratai said “Children being a vulnerable group attract special attention.”

He expressed hope that the children would be given “adequate medical car and support.”

The 184 suspects, made up of male and female children and teenagers, were released for rehabilitation and re-integration.

Hand over and transfer documents were signed by representative of Borno State Government and Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hon. Fanta Baba Shehuri, and representative of the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr Ibrahim Sise, and Gen. Rogers.
