Boko Haram Attack: How My Principal, Others Escaped Death – Borno Gov’s Aide

More insights have been provided into Wednesday’s attack on Borno Governor, Governor Babagana Zulum’s convey by Boko Haram terrorists. 

Zulum’s Spokesman, Isa Gusau, who provided the insights on Thursday in an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation Hausa Service, stated that the governor took a trip to Baga area of the state, following the military affirmation that the town had been freed from the hold of the terrorists.

Recall that THE WHISTLER had on Wednesday reported that Zulum’s convoy was ambushed by the insurgents while on his way to some internally displaced persons’ camps in the area.

According to Gusau, his principal and his team are in good condition.

He however, noted that he was not in the governor’s convoy, but stated that his principal, who was on a humanitarian mission to Baga, had received assurances from the military that the area was safe, before embarking on the journey.

He said, “I was not there physically. The governor was heading to Baga from Munguno because the soldiers told him they have liberated Baga from the control of Boko Haram.

“But along the way, the insurgents opened fire on the governor’s convoy and everyone scampered for their lives.”

The governor’s spokesman provided further explanation that some of those in the convoy, including policemen, government officials, sustained injuries in the process.

“They crawled for a distance on their knees. They sustained injuries. The Boko Haram insurgents were shooting”, he said.
