Boko Haram-Inspired Hollywood Movie ‘Rise’ Shot In Ghana
The movie titled ‘Rise’ is directed by first-time feature film director Maritte Go and co-written by Go and Broderick Engelhard.
Some of the actors featured in the movie include Jimmy Jean-Louis, Sasha Morfaw from ‘Black Panther’, Sufe Bradshaw, Sydelle Noel, and Peter Mensah.
“Rise” depicts an 18-year-old Nigerian princess who allows herself to be kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in an attempt to save her younger sister. In a bid to achieve her objective, she comes face to face with Boko Haram’s most dangerous leader.
‘Rise’ was shot in Los Angeles and Ghana.
Speaking about the movie the Filipino-US filmmaker said: “As a victim of violence and a woman of colour,”.
“I have always dreamt of making a film that empowers women and incites change. This is a story very close to my heart and in times like this I hope to make an impact with this film.”
The movie, ‘Rise’, will be released in 2019.
