Boko Haram Loses Men, Anti-Aircraft Gun, 10 AK-47 Riffles As Nigerian Troops Foil Attack On Borno Military Base

Land and Air Components troops of Joint Task Force, North East (NE), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have killed several Boko Haram (BH) and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists attempting to infiltrate Army’s Forward Operating Base, Gajiram Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the troops who were supported by the Nigerian Air Force component to decimate terrorists while trying to attack the base using gun trucks and several other weapons.

He said some of the terrorists, having suffered several human and equipment casualties, retreated in disarray.

“The gallant troops, who are currently exploiting the withdrawal route of the fleeing terrorists, have so far recovered 10 AK 47 riffles, one Anti-Aircraft Gun, one Shilka barrel, one 60mm Mortar tube and 61 rounds of PKT riffle ammunition amongst others. Several charred remains of the terrorists were also uncovered along the route.

“Sadly, two gallant soldiers paid the supreme price during the encounter,” Nwachukwu added

Recall that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya had directed troops of the Nigerian Army to sustain aggressive offensives against insurgents and bandits, as THE WHISTLER reported.

The army chief charged the military operatives to continue engaging the bandits who are precipitating insecurity in the country until they are decimated to a point of surrendering.
