Boko Haram: Presidency Rejects Edwin Clark’s ‘State Of Emergency’ Advice

The Presidency has rejected Edwin Clark’s call for the declaration of State of Emergency in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States over the activities of Boko Haram insurgents.

Clark had said on Monday that “we will be deceiving ourselves if we continue to believe that we can defeat the Boko Haram by allowing the state government to operate side by side with the military.”

The Pan Niger Delta Forum convener had advised President Buhari to declare State of Emergency in the troubled states for six months in order to enable the military effectively crush the insurgents.

Reacting however to Clark’s advice, presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, told Channels TV that the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan achieved nothing when it declared State of Emergency in the three states.

“Under President (Goodluck Jonathan), state of emergency was declared in those three states, what did it achieve?” he queried.

“That is already telling you that it goes beyond a state of emergency.

“What should happen is bringing a decisive and final end to the insurgency raving those states and by the grace of God, we are almost there,” Adesina said.
