Bone Pills Help Treat Baldness – Study

A study has revealed that the cure for baldness is in a drug originally used to treat osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a condition in which bones become weak and brittle with an increased susceptibility to fracture.

The study found a new compound known as WAY-316606, originally developed to nurse osteoporosis, to enhance the growth of hair follicles.

The drugs help to reduce expression of a protein called SFRP1, which inhibits the development and growth of many tissues, including hair follicles.

The lead scientist Nathan Hawkshaw, from the University of Manchester in England said the team was so much in excitement as the study turned out to give a result to two situations.

“The fact this new agent, which had never even been considered in a hair loss context, promotes human hair growth is exciting because of its translational potential: It could one day make a real difference to people who suffer from hair loss.”

Hawkshaw added that the drugs will be tested to know its effectiveness since minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Propecia, Proscar), identified to be used commonly to treat male-pattern balding, is said to have side effects.

“Clearly though, a clinical trial is required next to tell us whether this drug or similar compounds are both effective and safe in hair loss patients,” he said.
