Borno: Boy Playing With Grenade Kills Self, Others On Nigeria-Cameroon Bridge

A boy mistakenly detonated a bomb on a bridge in Gamborou Ngala, a border town linking Nigeria with Cameroon and has left 6 people dead with others 26 injured.

A resident of Gamborou, Mohammadu told BBC that the blast happened Monday afternoon, adding that the boy who was playing with the grenade was among those who died from the blast.

The governor of Cameroon’s Far North Region, Midninyawa Bakary, confirmed that the blast happened when a small child – believed to be under 10 picked up a grenade in a bin and mistook it for scrap metal.

Bakary further said that all the dead were Nigerians but there were several Cameroonians among the wounded, however stating that the source of the grenade was yet to be known.

Gamborou is a market hub located in Borno an embattled Nigerian state which has been under the attack of Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa.
