He said since the creation of the state in 1976, it had remained one of the few states which neither had a federal polytechnic nor a federal college of education.

“The Ramat polytechnic in Maiduguri is owned and funded by the state government while severe efforts and appeals by successive administrations in Borno, for the federal government to takeover the Ramat polytechnic were not successful, ” he stated.

According to him, the existing colleges of education in Maiduguri and Biu are owned by the state government.

He explained that the University of Maiduguri is the only federal tertiary institution sited in the state by federal government.

Governor Zulum, who is a former rector of Ramat Polytechnic has launched an aggressive lobby for the establishment of a federal polytechnic and federal college of education in the state.

He said the northern part of Borno where the approved federal polytechnic would be sited, is rated the most educationally backward in the state.

The governor eulogized President Buhari for approving the new polytechnic and the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, for recommending the approval.

The education minister informed Zulum that in addition to the federal polytechnic, Borno would soon have a federal college of education like it is across most of the 36 states.
