Borno Governor Names 21 Commissioners, 27 LG Chairmen

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the governor on Communication and Strategy, Isa Umar Gusau on Thursday

The statement said that the submissions are in pursuant of section 192 (2) of the 1999 Constitution.

The statement read in part: “Governor Shettima has sent a letter to the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly requesting that the 21 nominees of commissioners be confirmed, before they are sworn in next week along with their respective porfolios.

“The 21 nominees are as follow: Usman Ali Zannah, Musa Inuwa Kubo,\ Adamu Alhaji Lawan, Babagana Tijjani Banki, Kaka Shehu Lawan, Sugum Mai Mele, Dr. Haruna Mshelia, Mustapha Fannarambe, Mohammed Kauji, Dr. Babagana Umara Zulum, Fanta Baba Shehu, Ahmed Usman Jaha, Zainab Gimba, Yerima Lawan Kareto, Baba Magaji Wamdeo, Inna Galadima, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, Abubakar Ibrahim Babale, Waziri Imam, Ali Abacha and Mohammed Aliyu Dili.

On the appointments of the 27 caretaker chairmen for confirmation, the statement read: “Shettima has also sent names of 27 persons to the Assembly for confirmation as caretaker chairmen of the 27 council areas in Borno State. Shettima’s request was in line with section 81 (4) of the Borno State Local Government Law 2000 (Amended).

“The governor also sent names of nominees as councilors for all the wards across the state.”

Meanwhile, the Governor has reconstituted the Borno State Universal Basic Education Board (BOSUBEB) with Dr. Shettima Bukar Kullima as Chairman, while Mohammed Gambomi Marte, Ibrahim Modibbo and Ali Abacha Umar as members of the board.

Other boards and agencies that were reconstituted by the governor, include Borno State Teaching Service Board, with Dr. Suleman Bello as Chairman, and the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (BOSEMA) with Engineer Satomi Ahmed, as its Executive Chairman.

On reduction of ministries, Gusau said: “Governor Shettima deemed it necessary to reduce the number of ministries from 24 to 21 in line with his administration’s policies of restructuring government machinery for better performance. All the appointments were made to ensure a good balance of the various components that make up Borno State.

“Those appointed were carefully selected based on their individual tract records of merit. The Governor anticipated the cooperation of the Borno State House of Assembly which has extended very cordial working relationship with the executive arm of Government. He assured citizens of his administration’s commitments deliver the campaign pledges on the dividends of democracy and good governance.”
