Borno Killings: Pope Prays For ‘Bloodied Nigeria’, Asks God To ‘Convert’ Boko Haram

Leader of the Catholic Church worldwide, Pope Francis, has lamented the reign of blood in Nigeria following another gruesome massacre at Zabarmari village in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, where over 40 rice farmers were killed in barbaric fashion on November 28.

He described the incident as an unfortunate situation for Nigeria, adding that God will grant those affected the fortitude to bear the loss.

“I want to assure my prayers for Nigeria, which unfortunately once again has been bloodied by a terroristic massacre.

“May God welcome them into his peace and comfort their families, and may he convert the hearts of those who commit such horrors, which gravely offend His name,” he said at his weekly general audience as quoted by Reuters on Wednesday.

THE WHISTLER earlier reported that the United Nations (UN) had described the unsavory development in Borno state, as the most heinous crime in the country since 2020.

The UN Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Edward Kallon, further urged the federal government that those responsible for the act “be brought to justice”.

Subsequently, the federal government ordered the military forces to do the needful and take out the terrorists

“As we mourn all the lives lost in Zabarmari, the Armed Forces have been given the marching order to take the fight to the insurgents, not on a one-off, but on a continuous basis, until we root out the terrorists,” President Muhammadu Buhari stated.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives, on Tuesday, resolved to invite President Buhari to brief the lawmakers on the country’s security situation.

But the Senate recommended the sacking of the Service Chiefs.
