Boss Mustapha: Meet Buhari’s Newly Appointed SGF

Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on Monday, announced Boss Gida Mustapha as the replacement for sacked Secretary to the Government (SGF), Babachir Lawal.

Mustapha, who until his appointment was the Director General of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), is a lawyer, politician and management consultant.

The new SGF has served in the public sector for several years.

Mustapha obtained the West African School Certificate (WASC) and the Higher School Certificate in 1976, after attending Hong Secondary School in Hong Local Government Area in Adamawa State, and the North East College of Arts and Sciences in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Mustapha, in 1979, earned a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) degree from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He was called to the Bar in 1980.

Prior to joining the public service, Mr. Mustapha worked as an Executive Director in charge of Administration with Sotesa Nigeria Limited.

He entered the legal profession in 1983 and at the point worked with Messrs Onagoruwa & Co law firm in Lagos, and later with Messrs Mustapha & Associates.

Mustapha served between 2000 and 2007 as a member of Interim Management Committee IMC of the defunct Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund (PTF).

The Adamawa State 1991 governorship candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was at various times member of the following bodies.

** Federal Republic of Nigeria Constituent Assembly (1988 to 1989).
** Chairman, People’s Solidarity Party (PSP) Gongola State (1989 to 1990).
** Chairman, Social Democratic Party (SDP), Gongola State from 1990-1991.
**Deputy National Chairman, Action Congress of Nigeria (now defunct) (2010 to 2013).
