Boxing: All Set For Deontay Wilder Vs Tyson Fury Show Down Dec 1

WBC American champion, Deontay Wilder, and British lineal champion Tyson Fury are set for a world heavyweight clash at the Los Angeles’ Staples Center on December 1st.

Both fighters will go into the fight unbeaten in their combined 67 professional bouts in a fight expected to be watched by millions across the US and the world.

Fury who is also called the “Gypsy King,” has a two-inch advantage in height and reach over Wilder and is expected to weigh in around two-stone heavier for this contest. He is unlikely to surprise tactically and will attempt to use his physical attributes and long jab to keep Wilder at distance not only in the early stages but throughout the contest.

Many pundits see Fury’s best chance being a points win, with 33-year-old Wilder posing the greater threat of a knockout.

“Although Wilder’s punch is strong, nothing can compare to the mental strength Fury has shown both in and out of the ring. It’ll be a close call, but I think Fury’s got a true fighting chance,” said two-time heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

“It’s all up to Wilder. If Fury decides he wants to come to the middle of the ring and fight, then it’s going to be over quick. Wilder is going to catch him. Prediction: Wilder by KO,” Wilder’s last opponent, Luis Ortiz, said.

Wilder, won the WBC title in 2015 to become the first American heavyweight champion in nearly a decade and has cut a swathe through this division, winning 39 of his 40 professional fights inside the distance.

His opponent, Fury has not faced a proper test since producing the best performance of his career to beat Wladimir Klitschko in Germany in 2015, but he has looked surprisingly sharp against two vastly inferior opponents in his two comeback fights this year and, being only 30, should still have plenty of rounds left in the tank.

About a year ago Tyson Fury’s weight had ballooned to nearly 29 stone after his licence to box had been withdrawn and he had vacated his three world heavyweight titles. Twelve months later and he is poised to complete a remarkable return to the top and set up a mouthwatering clash with the sport’s superstar, Anthony Joshua.

The fight will feature a fascinating clash of styles. The question on the mind of many boxing fans is – “Will the boxer beat the puncher?”
