BREAKING: 11 Killed As Suspected Herdsmen Attack Plateau Communities

Reports just reaching THE WHISTLER have it that some suspected herdsmen have killed at least 11 persons in Du district, Jos South Local Government Area in Plateau State, on Sunday.

A witness who spoke to this medium in a phone interview said the suspected herdsmen arrived the said community in a Hilux van late Sunday and attacked the victims.

“We lost 11 persons yesterday in Latya and Loh Pam-Dyet in Du district, Jos South LGA. Gunmen came in a Hilux,” said the eyewitness.

Meanwhile, the fresh attack is coming less than a week after some suspected cattle rustlers reportedly rustled over 200 cows in some communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Mathias Terna Tyopev, said the attack, which occurred on Sunday night, close to Gura Topp in Rayfield Jos, also left about 12 others injured.

He explained that more security personnel have been deployed to the troubled area to restore calm and prevent further attacks.

“On the 02/09/2018 at about 20:30 hours, the Plateau State Police Command, Jos received a distress call to the effect that unknown gunmen attacked Lopandet Dwei Du Area of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State,” Tyopev said.

“The Command immediately mobilised to the scene of crime. On arrival we discovered that some people were shot.

“The victims were immediately rushed to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) and Plateau Specialist Hospital.

“As a result of the attack, eleven persons have been confirmed dead by doctors from the aforementioned hospitals, while twelve persons were wounded and are now on admission receiving treatment.

“More security personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent further attacks on the Community.”
