Yinka Odumakin, spokesperson for the apex Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has died on Saturday.
Odumakin, according to reports, died of COVID-19 at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital where he was receiving treatment for the virus.
The death of the human rights activist and politician was confirmed by his wife, Joe Okei-Odumakin.

“The sad event happened on Saturday morning at the intensive care unit of LASUTH where he was being managed for respiratory issues due to complications from COVID-19 which he had recovered from about a week ago.
“I appreciate the outpouring of grief and sympathy from home and abroad as I mourn my irreplaceable soulmate,” Odumakin’s wife said in a statement.
The deceased would be remembered for the key role he played in the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) which fought the regime of late military dictator, General Sani Abacha, after he annulled the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
Odumakin had also served as spokesperson for the Southern and Middle Belat Leaders’ Forum (SMBLF).
