The face-off between the Senate and the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Col. Hammed Ali rtd, seems to have deepened following the latter’s insistence that he would be unable to appear before the lawmakers in plenary on Wednesday.

Ali was summoned to appear before the upper chamber of the National Assembly in the Customs uniform.

But TheCable News reported that Ali said he cannot appear before the lawmakers as scheduled because the day “coincided with the fortnightly meeting of the NCS management”.

Ali raised the storm when he said import duties for cars already in the country for the past six years upward would be paid or the cars impounded, a move the senate and most Nigerians have rejected.
