BREAKING: Buhari Sacks Pondei, Appoints New NDDC Chief

President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the acting managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Kemebradikumo Daniel Pondei.

Pondei’s sacking came about five months after he slumped before a panel of the House of Representatives investigating alleged misappropriation of N81.5 billion in the NDDC.

His dismissal was announced in a statement by President Buhari’s senior media adviser, Femi Adesina, on Saturday night.

According to Adesina, the president subsequently approved the appointment of Effiong Awa as the “interim administrator” of the commission.

“President Buhari approves interim administrator for the NDDC. He is Mr Effiong Okon Akwa, the Ag. Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Commission, who is to assume headship till completion of the forensic audit.

“The development became necessary as a result of plethora of litigation and a restraining order issued recently against the Interim Management Committee of the NDDC by a Federal High Court in Abuja.,” said the presidential aide.
