BREAKING: Court Orders Release of Sanusi From ‘Detention’

The Federal High court, Abuja has granted the prayers of dethroned Emir Sanusi Lamido and ordered his release from detention, in Awe, Nasarawa state.

The matter was presided by Justice A.I Chikere, on Friday.

Sanusi’s legal team led by Lateef Fagbemi (SAN),had on Thursday, filed a motion ex parte, demanding his release from detention in Awe, Nasarawa, state by security agencies.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu; Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi; Attorney-General of Kano State, Ibrahim Muktar, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), are the first, second, third and fourth respondents.

Fagbemi told the court that even before the pronouncement from the government of Kano state, the palace of the applicant had been invaded.

He also said that the health of Sanusi was also a subject of concern in his application to the court.

“Based on circumstances, the applicant cannot go to Kano

“I urge your lordship to grant the first leg of the application,” he said.

The judge granted the relief as prayed.

Fagbemi also told the court to grant an order to serve the respondents with the originating summons within five days.

The judge granted relief two as prayed.

She adjourned till March 26.

“An interim order of this honourable court releasing the applicant from the detention and or confinement of the respondents and restoring the applicant’s rights to human dignity, personal liberty, freedom of association and movement in Nigeria, (apart from Kano State) pending the hearing and determination of the applicant’s originating summons,” the prayers partly read.
