BREAKING: Court Upholds Senate’s Rejection Of Magu As EFCC Boss

A Federal High Court in Abuja has upheld Nigerian Senate`s rejection of Ibrahim Magu as the substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The Court said the Senate is conferred with the authority to ensure the choice of only suitable and credible persons for appointment as the EFCC.

The court ruled in a suit challenging the senate’s authority to deny Buhari`s appointment of Magu as the head of the anti-corruption agency.

It held that any impression that the Senate is a mere rubber stamp of Presidential appointees is misconceived and running contrary to Section 2(3) of the EFCC Act.

Recall that the confirmation of the Chairman of the EFCC, who was appointed in `acting` capacity by Presiden Buhari on November 9, 2015, was first rejected by the Senate on December 15, 2017, and has consistently been rejected.

Senate’s decision not to confirm Magu was due to unfavourable security reports against his nomination made by the Department of State Services (DSS).

DSS had in the report indicted him of alleged corruption and unprofessional conducts.
