BREAKING: Dino Melaye Loses At Appeal Court

The Court of Appeal has affirmed the decision of the election petitions tribunal which sacked the Senator representing Kogi West at the Senate, Dino Melaye.

The court ordered the conduct of a fresh election in the zone.

Recall that the three man panel tribunal led by Justice A.O Chijoike had on August 23 nullified Melaye’s election.

He contested the election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Melaye’s closest rival, Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress APC, had challenged his victory at the tribunal.

Adeyemi challenged Melaye’s victory on the ground that there were cases of irregularities including over-voting and non-compliance to the electoral act.

Before his election into the senate in 2015 and 2019, Melaye was a member of the House of Representatives representing Kabba/Ijumu federal constituency.

He recently declared his intention to contest for the Kogi State gubernatorial election on the platform of his party.

He however lost the primaries.
