BREAKING: Hours After Wike’s Threat, Police IG Orders Probe Into Raid On Odili’s Residence

About 24 hours after the Rivers State Government gave the Federal Government 48 hours to produce the officers behind the recent invasion of Justice Mary Odili’s residence, the Inspector General of Police, (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered a detailed investigation into the raid.

The Abuja residence of Justice Odili, wife of former Rivers State governor, Peter Odili, was raided by security agents who claimed to be executing a search warrant obtained from the Federal Capital Territory Chief Magistrates Court.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who had visited the Supreme Court judge’s residence on Saturday, had warned that the federal government would be held accountable should any evil befall Peter Odili or his wife.

Following the widespread condemnation that trailed the raid, IGP Alkali-Baba distanced the force from the incident and ordered investigation into it.

The Force PRO, Frank Mba, disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

“Force is not aware and did not at any time order Police operatives to carry out such assignment,” said Mba.

The statement described the raid as unfortunate and unacceptable, adding that, “the IGP has directed the Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB) to conduct a discrete investigation into the incident.”

He assured that the police force was committed to the safety and security of the members of the judiciary and Nigerians in general.

He further called for calm and promised that the force will do all within its powers to unravel the perpetrators and motives behind the breach with a view to bringing all indicted persons to book.

Meanwhile, the IGP has directed the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to strengthen security around the street and residence of Justice Odili to ensure her safety and also to prevent a reoccurrence of the incident.

The IGP assured that the details of the investigations would be made public on conclusion of investigations.
