UPDATED: Kidnappers Kill Policeman, Abduct 4 In Abuja

Unknown gunmen have shot a police officer and kidnapped four residents of Tungan-Maje in Gwagwalada area council of Abuja on Tuesday.

The suspected kidnappers were said to have engaged policemen and vigilante members in gunfire for more than one hour before abducting the victims.

The FCT police spokesperson, Mariam Yusuf, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, identified the officer shot as Ambi John.

Yusuf said John, who was attached to Operation Puff Adder, died at a hospital while receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.

While noting that some arrests had been made in connection to the attack, the police PRO said some of the assailants escaped into the bushes.
