Breaking: Kogi Speaker Resigns

The speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Ahmed Imam, on Thursday, officially resigned from his position.

Imam, who is the member representing Lokoja 1 constituency in the state House, resigned following the crisis rocking the Assembly.

The Kogi lawmakers had on Wednesday postponed sitting till further notice after a crisis erupted on Tuesday over an alleged plan to remove the majority leader of the House, Matthew Kolawole.

However, at the resumption of plenary today, Imam’s resignation was announced by the Deputy Speaker, Hassan Abdullahi Baiwa member representing Okura constituency who presided over the House.

He announced that Hon. Matthew Kolawole, who is said to be a staunch supporter of the state governor, Yahaya Bello, takes over as the new Speaker.

Kolawole was nominated by the member representing Ankpa 1, Ahmed Mohammed, and seconded by the member representing Okehi constituency, Abdulkareem Kekere.
